Long over due

As no surprise to anyone, I've totally be failing at maintaining my blog. I wish I could say it's because I've just been way too busy to even think about it, but really I just don't feel like I've had much worth sharing.

However, looking back through the photos I've taken and haven't bothered to upload to my computer... there have been some pretty magical moments with the beautiful landscape here.

Starting with the northern lights dancing across the sky over town last night:

This is what they looked like directly above me:

Then last week there was the moon:

And whoever said there was a pot of the gold at the end of the rainbow must have meant a river full of char....

skidooing

I finally made it out skidooing yesterday afternoon with a few friends. We're down to the last few weeks with sunlight. This photo (taken just before 1 pm) shows the sun at it's highest point during the day. It also shows the Coppermine River frozen over with the ice sparkling in the sun. Unfortunately, it got dark quickly, and none of my other pictures turned out at all.

Annnd my kamiks are finally done and perfect to keep my toes warm in the 30 below weather! I love them and I love showing them off!

on the cliff

When Mom and Dad were here at the end of July, the weather was still fairly summery, the bugs were still out, and the sun only set for a few hours a night. Today, the sun sets just after 7 pm and rises slightly more than 12 hours after that. The skies are cloudy most days, and the temperature sits at or just above zero, dipping below that throughout the night.

While winter is definitely approaching, I'll share some pictures from a walk I went on with my dad up on the cliff behind our house.

I can't even explain how beautiful it is here. Even the pictures don't do it justice.

The airport...

We have hikhiks all around town (ground squirrels).

This is all going to look very different in about a month and a half.

Walk to the river

My sister and I went for a little walk down to the Coppermine River. The weather was beautiful. Soon the field will be filled with wild berries (cranberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc.).

Finally

My camera was returned to me today by a new friend of mine who works at the airport.
I can finally share with you some of the pictures I took on my way up here. Mostly, I took the pictures because I thought they were beautiful.

I think this is somewhere between Calgary and Yellowknife.

Moments before landing in Yellowknife.

Almost there!

Coppermine River

My Hamlet...! Tiny little thing. My house is along the the very bottom row of houses. Right behind the river, but with a gorgeous Northern view of the Arctic Ocean!

(Sorry about all the reflections of hands!)
